My Success Story:

I am a 40 yr old wife and mother of 2 teenagers. At the age of 32 I had my first heart attack. Along with heart disease I suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and OBESITY....all of which run in my family. Over the last 8 years I have had 3 heart attacks in all, open heart surgery resulting in 3 bypasses, numerous heart caths and I have been in and out of cardiac rehab. In June of 2011, I decided I had had enough and that at the highest weight I had ever been...I knew it was time to take care of me. I was on 22 different medications at that time and I just didn't want to live that way anymore. It was hard for me to diet and exercise...I was caught in the proverbial catch 22...too sick and tired to work out and too sick and tired from not working out. SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE. So June 2nd, I decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery. This was not a choice I made lightly. I talked it over with family and my doctors...I went thru pyschriatric testing, nutrition counseling and several visits with the bariatric team (nurses and surgeon). On August 10, 2011, I went in for surgery. I thought open heart surgery saved my life...but I now feel gastric bypass did more for me than open heart did. Just a couple months after surgery and I have lost over 30 lbs - I am off 3 medications so far (some others now have less doses) and I am also off my CPAP. I now feel like getting out and moving and doing some exercise. i am still learning how to eat in my new life...but I am getting there. I wanted to use a weight chart so I could see my improvements and to help keep me on target. I still have a long ways to go....but I am well on my way to getting there.
